The term ‘Godhra’ means Go – ‘Cow’, Dhara – ‘Land’; so, it is associated to being ‘Land of the Cows’ for the fact that it served as a land for grazing cows that used to come from Pavagadh. Today, it serves as administrative headquarter in the district of Panchmahal. Godhra holds tremendous religious as well as political importance. It is the place where two great political personalities Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhai Patel met for the first time. Godhra is popular for Jain temples which are most revered and visited. Apart from temples, there are many other tourist spots in Godhra namely, Mesri River, Ramsagar Lake and Kanelav Lake that offer explicit natural beauty.
